This year’s summer exhibit is in place and will be open to the public beginning this weekend, Memorial Weekend. Open hours on Sunday, May 27, are Noon to 4 p.m. and on Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) open hours will begin right after the parade – about 10:30 – and end at 4 p.m. Anyone wishing to see the exhibit when no open times have been posted is invited to call the Sturgeon House (814 474-5855) and leave a name and request. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
We have been posting about the summer exhibit for several weeks… the Centennial Celebration in Fairview in 1968. That year was a horrific year, perhaps everywhere but Fairview. Nationally and internationally. You will see a hint of that at the exhibit, but mostly you will see what a great time folks had in Fairview that August during the celebration. Our photo shows how the ladies dressed to enter the fashion show. Many of them made their own dresses.
It just happens that the Fairview High School class of 1968 is having a reunion this year and the weekend they are in town will be an open weekend for the Sturgeon House as well. Saturday, July 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, July 8 from Noon to 3 p.m. By the way, we will have a yard sale that same Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For the class of 1968 we have a special message: our yearbook collection is missing this year. Who were the prom kind and queen? And, is anyone willing to give us this yearbook? These are great (GREAT) sources for local history!
We hope to see many members of this class as well as others this summer. Make us a destination. You are invited! Admission is free!
