Generally, we can expect big crowds to visit when we have an exhibit on the Civil War. Terrible as it was, there is a mystic about it that draws us in.  This month (June 2019) we are pleased to offer two evening programs for those Civil War buffs – and everyone else – and both are sponsored by the Jefferson Educational Society (JES).

George Deutsch, Executive Director of the Erie County Historical Society, is an expert on the subject and we are very pleased to announce that he will be presenting both programs.

The first is scheduled for this week on Wednesday, June 12, from 7 to 8:30.  The title of his presentation is: “The Major Events of the Civil War.”  The second is on Wednesday, June 26 and the title is “The Heroic Life of Strong Vincent.”  In both cases his presentation will last about an hour and will be followed by a question-and-answer period.

Both promise to be excellent presentations on the Civil War and shouldn’t be missed.

Now, here’s the GREAT thing about these programs: they are FREE!

The JES is expanding its program… bringing them out into the county to satellite locations such as the Sturgeon House.  All that folks in these areas need to do is come.  Well, there is one other thing.  You need to call JES’ Erie office (459-8000) and register.  That way, we will be sure to have a seat for you.  When our seating capacity is fully booked, your name will be placed on a waiting list.

The JES has scheduled two programs each month through November.  Watch for more on this, and mark your calendar now.  June is Civil War month at the Sturgeon House.
