SUMMARY:Christmas Open House
DESCRIPTION:Yes!  The Fairview Area Historical Society plans to offer its traditional Christmas Open House this year.  That includes warm wassail and cookies to all who attend\, seasonal music\, a decorated Sturgeon House\, a fire glowing in the fireplace\, baked goods\, books and note cards for sale\, and the pre-ordered Christmas Wreaths available for pick up.  \nOhhh.  It’s a magic time at the Sturgeon House and a grand way to start the Christmas season. \nThe lucky quilt ticket will be drawn at 4 p.m. on Sunday.  The winner need not be present to win.   \nOften\, as in the long-gone Ice Cream Social\, old friends meet at the Sturgeon House who haven’t seen each other for years.  Little reunions happen all over the first floor of the historic house. \nPlan your weekend now. \nFor those of you who plan to bake your favorite cookies to donate\, the House will be open at 9 a.m. on Saturday to receive cookies… or all through the open hours.   \nFairview cooks are the best!

SUMMARY:Cemetery Walk to WW I Veteran's Gravesites
DESCRIPTION:The Fairview Area Historical Society will repeat the Fairview Cemetery Walk offered during the Memorial Weekend this year.  The gravesites of 12 veterans of World War I will be visited with a brief biography shared at each gravesite.   \nThe time and date for the event is 2 p.m.\, Sunday\, November 7\, with a rain date of 2 p.m.\, Sunday\, November 14.    The walk is an opportunity to honor World War veterans on or about “Armistice Day\,” which was established after that war and is now called “Veterans Day.”  It will begin at the cemetery chapel off Maple Avenue in Fairview. \nThe 12 men in the walk include three who were killed in battle\, two who died prior to the beginning of the battle\, and eight who were involved years later in organizing the American Legion Post #742 in Fairview\, naming it for the first Fairview man to die in World War II\, Orville H. Frank.  \nMany other Fairview veterans of the First World War were involved in organizing Legion Post #742\, but are buried elsewhere. \nAs before\, there is no charge to join the walk.  The only requirement to participate is to call the Sturgeon House\, 814-474-5855\, and leave your name and phone number.  Registration is required.  \nThe walk is expected to take about one hour and will circle the entire cemetery.  Appropriate dress is suggested. \nThe Chapel will be open during the walk for anyone who would like to stop in and purchase any books available through the Society.  These include the newest book\, Lake Shore Memories.   \nAlso available for sale will be tickets for the quilt raffle and the opportunity to pre-order the 22-inch Christmas Door Wreaths.
