November 20 Lecture by JES Speaker
November 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Two more lectures are scheduled at the Sturgeon House by the Jefferson Educational Society this fall. The first is titled “The Three Forts of Erie and Their Economic Importance Today,” and is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 7 to 8:30 p.m. The speaker will be Michael Fuhrman who has managed or led many cultural projects in the Erie Community and is the founder of the Jefferson’s Civic Leadership Academy.
“Erie is at the gate of an urban revitalization process,” he states in an essay for the Jefferson. “Public history and a community’s story are powerful tools for urban revitalization.” He cites “heritage tourism” as being a primary part of the recovery strategy. The National Trust describes heritage tourism as: “Traveling to experience the places and activities that authentically represent the stories and the people of the past.”
This should be a fascinating lecture. And, it is open to all at no cost. Please call the JES office to register that you plan to attend: 459-8000.
