General Meeting – Mary Beth Pfister

The Historical Society will hold its first regular meeting of the 2019 spring season on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. The speaker for the evening is Mary Beth Pfister on the topic of the “History of the Erie County Almshouse.”
Now called Pleasant Ridge Manor, this former service, called the “County Poor House” was originally located at Pittsburgh and West 23rd St. In 1917 300 acres of the Dobler farm, were sold to the Erie County Poor Board and a building was soon constructed to care for the indigenous of Erie County. The building has undergone many changes and the service also has seen change. Pfister is a long-time employee of Pleasant Ridge Manor.
The meeting and program are open to the public and admission is free.
